Every year the volume of tourists visiting the hill stations especially to the Nilgiris is increasing enormously and this causes an increased volume of waste generation by traveler’s and their hosts. Our water bodies and forests are filled with tons of plastics and toxic waste, which cause harm and pose a serious threat to all fauna and flora. Tiny pieces of plastic may clog the stomachs of animals and birds because they mistake it for food.

Many of us look forward to travelling to pristine and remote locations, however it is these environments that are the most fragile and requires both responsible hosting and responsible travelling. To ensure that beautiful locations are preserved for the future, travellers must do their part, by travelling responsibly.

A Few Tips on How to Be A Responsible Traveller:

• Carry your own re-usable water bottle.
• Avoid bringing single use plastic bags, carry cloth bags instead.
• Support locally owned businesses, hotels, restaurants and other services. Eat local food, use public transport, hire a bike or walk where convenient – you'll meet local people and get to know the place.
• Shop from traditional artisans and for locally made products, helping keep traditional crafts alive and favour local products over imported items. Bargain if that is a local practice, but bear in mind that a small amount to you could be extremely important to the seller.
• Choose sustainable tour operators & accommodations.
• Get yourself a zero waste travel kit.

A Few Points to Note While Traveling to Prakritilaya:

• PrakritiLaya will not be providing packaged mineral water (PET) bottles as they are banned in the Nilgiris, since they pose a serious threat to our environment.
• Guests bringing Plastic water bottles must take them back with you while checking out.
• Filtered U.V water is available at all times for refilling at the dining hall.
• Filtered U.V water in copper Jugs will be provided in our rooms.
• Natural Soap & Shampoo Liquids will be provided. Kindly carry your other toiletries.
• Avoid bringing single use plastic products as far as possible while travelling.
• We will be providing garbage bags for any non-bio degradable waste generated from your end & they must be taken back while checking out and disposed off responsibly.
